Narrative: Aftermission entry of 1WO I am still not able to understand what happened during our mission. What seemed like a continuation of our curse - after we were intercepted by an enemy plane in the bay again and strife knocked out by a cannon, killed two crewmens and seriously wounded Dirk, our 2WO - quickly changed with the captain's order to continue our journey. LI Schacht tried to repair our deck gun, but even his craft and magic did not find the solution. Morale was low, the cadre morale doubtful.
We traveled to the British Isles to find any prey. We found one, a Large Freighter, over 9000 ton, and a captain ordered us to follow him into the cloud of night. We fired torpedoes, and sank it. Captain ordered survivors to be left to their destiny, I wanted to provide them with at least some supplies, as we are still far from any shipping route and Isles - and we are still humans, same as them. With LI Schacht they overruled my position, and we left them to their destiny. After a couple days we met a tanker - a smaller one, around 7000 ton, which met the same fate as a freighter. Second attack, following the same pattern, too dangerous, too close to our target, we fired our torpedoes with the intent to kill them, leaving them minimum time for evacuation.
I noticed LI Schacht worries. Not because we rushed headlong and killed dozens of people, no, it's something else. Something personal. He totally agreed with the captain on everything, just not to be noticed. As if he was afraid of him.
I thought I have to press on him and find out what it is. God, how I missed Dirk here. He would be the voice of reason and things would end differently... because six days after our second sunk ship we detected another freighter with the escort of RN fregate. I wanted to leave them be, they were less than 4000 tons in total. LI Schacht wanted to wake the captain, to make him decide. I didn't, so we started to argue. I pressed Schacht and immediately regretted it - because I found our captain lost his mind. During that air attack, he shot and killed those two crewmens, who with Schacht operated our flak cannon. Just like that, for no reason. They were shooting at the aircraft in one moment, in second, both were shot dead, and a captain was yelling at Schacht that if he did not follow his orders he would be shot as well. Which orders? LI Schacht didn't know.
I was furious. I stormed a captain's cabin and almost got shot myself. That bastard sleeps with a gun! This got me confined to the officers ward room. And another 20 sailors were killed or wounded when that crazy bastard attacked a British Battlecruiser - and got lucky, because he "just" lost one diesel engine, and left 20 sailors drowning in the aft torpedo room and engineering. After the attack, the captain reinstated me into the position of 1WO, like he did not remember why he threw me to the "brig" in the first place. Now we returned back to port and I don't know what to do. I know I never want to return back, into a submarine with him, but sinking Nelson brought him nothing less than recognition and fame. OKM even suggested him for the KCOS awarded by Hitler himself!
I cannot just go to our admiral and say my captain is murdered, madman and they should strip him of command. I will visit Dirk tomorrow in the base infirmary. I hope he will be able to advise me what to do as his uncle is KM Commodore...
OOC: Sep 41 is promotion date, and regarding KC I'm not sure. I met tonnage for Oakleaves and sunk KC+1lvl capital ship, so idk if this capital ship bump my KC to Oakleaves and tonnage is sadly ignored, or I receive Oakleaves for tonage and capital ship bump directly to KCO&S I'm out due a family visit until Jan 15th so I post my SEP-OCT patrol now, to be on time.

30 Sep 1941, La Spezia, U-45 enters the port with one pennant flying from the periscope.
U-Boat #: U-45 Patrol Month(s): Sep 41 Patrol Location: Mediterranean Patrol # for this Kommandant: 11 Successful Patrol (Y/N): Y Number of freighters sunk (This Patrol/Cumulative for this Kommandant): 1/12 Number of Tankers sunk (This Patrol/Cumulative for this Kommandant): 0/3 Number of Capital Ships sunk (This Patrol/Cumulative for this Kommandant): 0/0 Tonnage sunk (This Patrol/Cumulative for this Kommandant): 5,000/96,700 Refit Time: 1 Month standard, ready Nov 1941 Award Requests: None
Narrative:
2 Sep 1941, La Spezia, Italy After a month of debauchery, the Italians being much friendlier than were the French, KKpt Albert Shroeder is anxious to get his crew back to sea and whipped back into fighting shape. Not that they weren’t fighting already, several hands having to be collected from the local polizia after a difference of opinion with members of the Reggia Marina. With a sense of relief, Shroeder tells his Number One, LtzS Rudolf Hintzmann, “Take her out.”
16 Sep 1941, Mediterranean Sea off Bizerte, Tunisia, day U-45 stands between the freighter and the harbor at Bizerte, Tunisia as the merchantman’s crew hurriedly takes to the boats. Once the boats are away, KKpt Albert Shroeder nods to his 2WO, LtzS Klaus Lister. Lister turns to the crew manning the 88cm deck gun and announces, “Fire!” A few more rounds and the freighter starts to burn even as she begins to settle in the water.
23 Sep 1941, Mediterranean Sea near Malta, day Over a week sitting in the approaches to Malta and not a single enemy vessel is sighted. Then the lookout cries out, “ALARM!” and points in the direction of the island. A small black dot indicates an approaching patrol plane. Not waiting to find out what type, LtzS Klaus Lister orders the bridge cleared and the boat begins to dive. A few tense moments pass before it is clear the enemy did not see U-45.
30 Sep 1941, La Spezia, Italy U-45 returns to her new home, one pennant flying from the periscope. While it’s not much to show for a month’s patrolling, at least the boat is undamaged and there ae no injuries among the crew, reflects KKpt Albert Shroeder. Rather than dwell on the success or failure of the mission, Shroeder finds his thoughts turning to a certain Signora whose Husband is away fighting in Ethiopia. She had promised him a week of skiing in the Italian Alps.
