We will be using “Silent Victory” by consimpress for this campaign, including Optional Rules 14.4 – 14.9. The campaign will start when the Board reaches December 1941. Dec 41 patrols will begin in Manilla, Philippines, with subsequent patrols originating from Freemantle, Australia. See the note “Special procedure for 12/41 patrols” under “Silent Victory” rule 7.3.2 for the Dec 41 patrols.
The submarine classes included in the game that are available in Manilla in Dec 41 are the Porpoise and Salmon. Submarines entering the campaign after Dec 41 may be any class available as of the date when joining – Exception: due to their limited number, the Narwhal and Argonaut classes are not available.
Patrols are two months long, unless aborting early. Assume each box on the Patrol Track is five days. Since the patrol is two months long, Standard Refit is only one month (The original game mechanic called for two month patrols but only counted them as one month on the Patrol Log Sheet, making up for the other month by recording a two month refit.) Each real world week equals one game month.
The Admin (crushedhat) will determine Patrol Assignment, which will appear in the On Patrol/Silent Victory thread. You then conduct your patrol (play the game) and submit a report under the same thread. Patrol Assignments will be posted on Monday, with reports due on Sunday. (Note: since a typical patrol is two months long, your Patrol Report should be posted in the following month unless it was concluded early). If you will not be able to submit your report on time, let the Admin know so that you are not adjudged lost due to being overdue; boats more than one month overdue without having notified the Admin will be determined to have been sunk.
You determine any crew improvement, and replacements (Note: If one of the named officers becomes ‘Expert’ he is automatically promoted; LT to LCDR, LT (jg) to LT, PhM2c to PhM3c.). The Admin determines any awards or submarine commander promotions granted as well as any submarine modifications/upgrades, though you should request them.
Your Patrol Report should be in the following format:
Submarine Class:
Submarine Name: (historical one or make up your own – US sub names in WWII were based upon fish)
Commander’s Name:
Patrol Number: (what number of patrols is this for the current commander?)
Patrol Assignment: (Java Sea, Philippines, etc.)
Successful Patrol: Y/N (see rules 7.4.7 and 7.5.2)
Number of Ships Sunk: (This Patrol/Cumulative)
Was a Capital Ship Sunk This Patrol: Y/N
Tonnage Sunk: (This Patrol/Cumulative)
Refit Time: (1 month Standard plus any additional time due to damage, rules 10.14 and 10.15)
Patrol Narrative: (Optional description of events occurring while on patrol)
Ongoing submarine histories will appear under the Harbor/Boats of the Silent Service thread.
Any requests for Awards and Promotions should be submitted under the Harbor/Awards and Promotions/Silent victory thread. Be sure to include both the award requested and the justification for it. Final decisions will appear under the same thread. This is also where you submit requests for Boat upgrades.
The Port/Freemantle thread is a place to post RP scenes between patrols.
If you wish to participate, post your sub on this thread. Include the following:
Sub Class:
Sub Name:
Commander’s Name: LCDR (name)
XO’s Name: LT (name)
Engineer’s Name: LT (name)
3rd Officer’s Name: LT (jg) (name)
Pharmacist’s Name: PhM2c (name)
Welcome aboard.
